Hydaulic Brake / Clutch repairs
A company in Penrose, Auckland New Zealand (Just Brakes Ltd) reconditions all brake and clutch equipment and offers a very efficient and cost effective service for boring out old, rusty / scored brake and clutch master /slave cylinders. They then press fit a new stainless steel sleeve and fit new seals.

This means you don't have to scour the country looking for replacement parts - they simply return your old bits to better than brand new. This type of repair lasts indefinitely and is unbeatable on price. Highly recommended.

Substitute parts

Do you know of any parts that can be used instead of the original or any restoration tips? Please email me with your suggestions

Rebuild tricks and tips
John Gramlick offers this excellent suggestion for installing TS3 gudgeon pin caps into the pistons. In ignorance and / or a shortage of the correct Churchill Installing Tool, these items are frequently belted in using a hammer and a rounded drift - totally the wrong way to do it as this risks bending / deforming the high tensile (and very thin) caps. If damaged on installation, they leak oil (causing huge clouds of smoke) or can come out during operation of the engine, causing irreparable damage to the side of the piston, rings and cylinder.

The right way to do it is to position the piston onto a wide "V" block (without the rings fitted) to keep it stable and in the right place - then the caps can be carefully "clicked" into place using gentle, steady, downward pressure on the end of a rounded mandrel (that has the approximate curvature of the installed cap). John also suggests that the other end of the mandrel be turned down so it fits in a drill press chuck and the drill press gets used to "click" the caps into the pistons. This works very well.

Many thanks for this suggestions from John Gramlick, via Mark Erskine.
