David Kent of South Australia has done an amazing job of restoring a 1956 MkIII C7 over a four and a half year period. We are very grateful he has documented the progress of the restoration with some wonderful photos, and even more so that he has made these available to Commer Connections. I'm sure this will inspire many restorers. Read on and enjoy.
The Commer is a CD 762 meaning it originally came out with a lwb 162" chassis. The serial number is T99A 0485 with additional number QX 32198. The engine number is 15673 OE2 (OE standing for Oil Engine). At some stage, the chassis was shortened and had been a super spreader. David has now taken it back to 141"
The truck as found. Plenty of work to do!
Might be rough around the gills but all the main stuff is still there!
A spare cab came in handy for some parts, including the external air cleaners now fitted, but other parts were surprisingly unusable. David found the dashboards in the two different cabs were mounted in a different manner so was unusable in the original cab. The windscreens were mounted differently as well.
